To all the struggling yoga teachers out there… your teacher Krishnamacharya also had to struggle financially to seed Yoga into this suffering world. So thank you everyOne. As my Mother said to me, and I say to you “ don’t let anything hold you back.” You are doing great and necessary work.

.

As a young family man and struggling yoga teacher Krishnamacharya would host yoga demonstrations with his children to explain to the public what is Yoga. The children on the photo are two eledest Krishnamacharya’s daughters: Pundarikavalli and Alamelu. He was then an employee with the Maharaja of Mysore around 50 years old. Soon he would be locked out of his own Yoga Shala when the politics changed and we saw the end of the Maharaj and British raj end. He then went to Madras with his young family and continued to teach in the traditional way… relationship with students one to one. He could at any time have taken important jobs offered to him by top institutions because he was he was a highly qualified scholar and professor. He chose instead to remain in poverty committed to Yoga teaching to the world because he knew, as a scholar and deeply informed spiritual practitioner of Veda that Yoga was vital, even necessary to spiritual / religious life.
